Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Cognitive Function Treatment in Cambridge

Cognitive function treatment in Cambridge often starts with a question most people haven't been asked: is oxygen delivery part of the problem? We see a lot of people in the Waikato whose thinking has quietly got harder. Memory slipping. Oxygen therapy addresses that directly.

Why Us

Why Choose Us For Cognitive Function

Treats the Oxygen Side of Brain Fog

We look at something most people are never asked about: whether oxygen delivery is part of why your thinking has quietly got harder.

Reaches Tissue Breathing Misses

Pressurised oxygen increases cerebral blood flow and calms the neuroinflammation behind fog and slipping memory.

Sharpness for Real Life

Helps you stay on top of work, farming, and independence, and there's no GP referral needed, just call or book online.

A Certified Chamber In Cambridge

A 4-person chamber running at 2.0–2.4 ATA on Cambridge Road, with a technician monitoring every session from outside.

How Pressurised Oxygen Reaches Brain Tissue That Normal Breathing Misses

Your brain requires approximately 20% of your body’s oxygen supply. When oxygen delivery diminishes, cognitive processing slows, a gradual change often attributed to ageing.

Standard breathing delivers oxygen through red blood cells, which works effectively for healthy tissue with adequate circulation. However, it struggles to reach areas experiencing reduced blood flow.

Inside a hyperbaric chamber, atmospheric pressure approximately doubles. At this level, oxygen dissolves directly into blood plasma rather than binding to red blood cells, allowing it to travel further and reach tissue normal circulation cannot adequately supply.

That is the mechanism the therapy works on: getting oxygen into brain tissue that circulation is no longer servicing well. What it changes for any individual varies, and we won’t predict yours.

The Conditions HBOT Supports, And The Ones It Does Not

HBOT effectively addresses cognitive issues involving oxygen delivery problems: persistent brain fog following COVID, post-concussion thinking that hasn’t fully resolved, memory and processing decline that’s been gradual over decades, and early cognitive changes without a formal diagnosis.

We also treat individuals without obvious symptoms who want to maintain cognitive sharpness in their 60s and 70s while continuing work or farming.

What HBOT does not do is cure Alzheimer’s or dementia. For late-stage cognitive decline, the research doesn’t support that claim and neither will we.

Our Cambridge clinic is new locally but operates using established protocols developed through years of Auckland Hyperbarics experience. Contact us if you’re uncertain whether your situation qualifies.

What A Course Involves

A course typically runs 20 to 30 sessions. We won’t tell you what you’ll notice or when, because that varies widely and the cause matters: six months of post-COVID fog is a different situation from change that built up gradually over years.

We’ll give you an honest read on your situation at the consult, including where the evidence is thin. What we will say plainly is that a handful of sessions followed by stopping is not what the protocols are built around; they are run as a consistent block.

Why Consistent Oxygen Therapy Matters For An Ageing Brain

Cerebral blood flow naturally declines with age. Blood vessels become less efficient, and brain circulation drops where it’s most needed, a universal ageing process.

The challenge is that people typically don’t recognise this until something alerts them: poor cognitive test results or family observations. By then, the issue has usually been developing quietly for years.

Those who gain the most from HBOT begin treatment before serious problems emerge, still sharp and active but noticing subtle changes, choosing to intervene while it’s easier. Regular sessions maintain higher cerebral blood flow and reduce low-level neuroinflammation, the asymptomatic kind affecting long-term brain maintenance.

For Waikato residents who need reliable cognition for farming, family management, or independence, this maintenance approach proves practically valuable.

How To Know If HBOT Is Right For Your Situation

Individual cognitive health varies significantly, and the underlying causes matter.

Typical candidates include those experiencing unexplained brain fog, thinking changes following illness or injury, or early cognitive changes they want addressed before they compound further.

If you’re uncertain, contact us. We ask clarifying questions and provide honest assessments. We’ll decline cases we can’t help. No GP referral required, call or book online.

  • Dissolves oxygen into your plasma so it reaches tissue normal breathing misses
  • Run as a course of sessions, not a one-off
  • Full health intake before your first session
  • No sedation, drive yourself home after every session
  • No GP referral required, call or book online

Cognitive Function FAQ

Questions, Answered

How many sessions before my thinking gets clearer?

We can't give you a timeline, because responses vary and we won't guess at yours. A typical course runs 20 to 30 sessions, and how long you've had the issue is part of the picture. We'll be realistic with you about what is and isn't known when you contact us.

Is HBOT safe if I'm on medication?

Generally yes, with most medications. A full health intake happens before your first session. Any medication or health history concerns are discussed before treatment begins.

Can HBOT help if I've been told my memory issues are just ageing?

Possibly. Reduced oxygen delivery to brain tissue is one factor in age-related cognitive change, and improving that delivery is what this therapy works on. That is the mechanism, not a promise about your result. Come and talk to us and we'll give you a straight view.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. We accept self-referrals. GP notes are helpful but not required.
